
Baclayon is a coastal municipality in the island province of Bohol.
The municipality has a land area of 35.49 square kilometers which constitutes 0.72% of Bohol’s total area. Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was 22,461. This represented 1.61% of the total population of Bohol province, or 0.28% of the overall population of the Central Visayas region. Based on these figures, the population density is computed at 652 inhabitants per square kilometer or 1,690 inhabitants per square mile.
In addition to rice, the Municipality of Baclayon produces significant volumes of corn, banana, ubi, and coconut, making them the top non-rice crops in the area.
Bohol is renowned for its native aromatic purple yam, the ubi kinampay, which is one of the province’s most well-known crops.
The Municipality of Baclayon is a significant producer of this variety of yam, as well as other crops such as rice, corn, bananas, and coconuts. Additionally, the local government encourages the cultivation of livestock such as chickens, ducks, carabaos, goats, and cows.
