Tourism
Baclayon, on the province of Bohol, Philippines, is a charming, historic town, renowned as being the first municipality to be established on the island by the Spaniards in 1596.
Baclayon lies only six kilometers from Tagbilaran City, the biggest city on Bohol, making it an ideal location to base your holiday on Bohol. The name Baclayon was derived from the word ‘bacay’, meaning detour, as early travelers used to detour around the rocky cliff along the shore towards the city to avoid falling from it. ‘Bacayon’ was the town’s original name, from which the official name of Baclayon was formed.
The town is abundant with cultural, natural, and adventure-laden treasures to excite everyone who visits. Attractions include the antiquated and regal Baclayon Church of the Immaculate Conception, beautiful white sand beaches on Pamilacan Island, and incredible Dolphin & Whale Watching tours where you can catch a sight of ‘super-pods’ as they swim by. Baclayon truly is an icon of eco-cultural tourism in the Philippines and should not be missed during your time to Bohol!
